The traditional view of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis supports the notion of the neutrality of the therapist. However, the research on the successful outcome of treatment indicates that the relationship between patient and therapist is the key toward reaching treatment goals; an approach that contradicts the traditional view. Today, many therapists (I include myself among them) are more tolerant of the idea that the Real person of the therapist in the treatment setting is not only an inescapable dynamic, but, that it is an important aspect of the change process.
In addition to general practice I specialize in treating members of the helping professions that include nurses, physicians, counselors, social workers, psychologists and providers of religious services. Group therapy is offered in combination with individual therapy and/or as an exclusive modality depending upon the individual's progress in treatment and comfort level participating in groups. (separate section on group including a "poem" on the subject of group therapy.
The length of the course of treatment is variable and dependent upon the mutual effort and commitment of myself and the patient. In an ideal setting of emotional safety and trust, the therapeutic milieu, I perceive the patient as the central figure and myself as "facilitator" toward the pursuit of the patient's true self that resides beneath his/her coping strategies.
Modalities: Individual, Couple, Group
